The Memory Garden

Dedicated in 2016, the Memory Garden is a quiet space to reflect, gather, or toast the sunset. Inspired by historic Lowcountry architecture, it honors departed loved ones and was built entirely by community volunteers over two years.

Open to marsh views and the setting sun, it collects rainwater to nourish the central garden. A time capsule, sealed in one wall, will be opened in 2066.

Bird Blind

Behind Huyler House, there is a bird blind for observing wood storks, egrets, and herons that live in the surrounding marsh. If you’re lucky, you might also spot nesting eagles, otters, or deer. Thanks to support from the Dewees Island Conservancy, a new bird blind will soon be added at the Huyler House lagoon, offering even more opportunities to quietly connect with wildlife.
