Dewees Island is unlike anywhere else

Every guest is responsible for knowing what it takes to be here.

Weather, tides, wildlife, and ferry schedules all impact daily life. By visiting, you agree to respect our community, protect our environment, and follow all posted rules.

Before your trip, it’s critical that you understand how to prepare, from transportation and safety to wildlife awareness and conservation guidelines. Failing to follow these rules can put you, others, and the island at risk.

Renting Your Home on Dewees

Dewees Island now has a formal Short-Term Rental (STR) program regulated by the Dewees Island POA, Charleston County, and the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR).

All STRs must follow this process. Rentals outside the approved program are not permitted.

To rent your Dewees Island property short-term, you must complete the DIPOA STR Acknowledgment Form and submit an application fee. You’ll also need liability and property insurance naming the DIPOA as an additional insured, a Charleston County business license, and approval of your County STR Permit. Each property may be rented for a maximum of 56 days per calendar year, and no more than five homes may be rented on the island during any given week. All rentals must follow POA guidelines, use approved platforms, comply with the island’s conservation easement, and renew permits annually by December 31.
